Springfield’s New XDS
January 18, 2012
Springfield Armory announced a new pistol in the XD lineup. This small pistol is a very compact XD in .45 acp. It holds 5+1 rounds in it’s single column magazine. The pistol is also thin with the width right at one inch.Right now it’s only available in .45 acp with other calibers coming down the road. The empty weight is only 29 ounces.
Springfield just added a web page to the XDs over the weekend! Springfield XDs

Hot stuff Phil. Had been looking at the Walther PPS to replace my SW 4040PD carry gun. In 9mm, this ought to be a winner!
Do you have plans to get a test sample? Also, is this a XD or XDM platform?

Hi Charlie,
Hope all is well with you guys. Well sir it’s an XD frame. I’m not sure why they didn’t make it an XDm but i imagine weight had a lot to do with it. It’s actually .90 in width which is like the PPS or very close anyway. It’s gonna be a great one and sell like hotcakes. I’m going to try and get one. They aren’t in production yet so getting one may take awhile. The gun rags always get first shot at new guns so I figure about two months but I will get one! I tell ya it’s a hard choice between that and a PPS. I love the PPS no doubt about it. The manual grip safety on the XDs is a draw for me though.
All the best,
Phil

Hello Phil,
I’ve been wondering when Springfield or Glock would wise up and start producing single-stack pistol for easier CCW. This one looks great, but I’d love to see one 9mm! In the meantime, I still lov’in my XDM 3.8 compact in 9mm. It makes a sweet CCW with 13 in the mag and one in the chamber. Like Springfield says…”Fear no evil.” When do you think Springfield will come out with the 9mm version of this new single-stack? Any idea what kind of price tag they’ll carry?
Best Regards,
Greg

Hi Greg,
First things first. I figure a timeline of around one year before they come out with a 40 cal then a 9MM or possibly maybe the other way around. Kinda depends on the marketing guys. Of course Glock has had the model 36 single stack for 45 for some years but never jumped on any other calibers. Then again you can never ever figure out what Gaston Glock will do next:-)
Your 3.8 is one heck of a CCW gun even in summer with the write holster and clothing.Price wise the 45 single stack will be around $600 maybe $650 pretty close to the other models from what I’ve heard. They don’t even know for sure yet. Prices are going up some again this year:-(
Take care,
Phil
