These stones are over 50 years old. Start with the top stone and work your way down to the last #5 stone. Correct motion is backward and forward. The stone is dampened with water, wiped clean then dampened again. A great way to put a super sharp edge on any blade.
The next video is a demo of using the Edge Pro system
This is the Lansky system which is what I normally use

You have a real nice site here. I’ve never used any of these systems to sharpen a knife, but if I’m not mistaken they hold the knife at the right angle to get the edge just right? I grew up in Eastern Kentucky with guns and knives around me all my life and was taught how sharpen a knife but I could see how something like this could really help, especially on knives that are troublesome. Love all the 1911 work you have here. I own my grandfather’s 1911 he carried and used in WW1 France and is my most valued gun. I wish I could have brought mine back from Vietnam, though it was pretty shot out when I got it. I also have an old family Army model 38 which might be the sorriest pistol ever given to a soldier. Keep up the good work. I’m going to enjoy looking over the rest of your site.
